Alternatives to the industrial food system model have always existed, but do we know where to look? Through a series of interviews and discussion broadcast over the radio, we want to dig into alternative food networks and explore the actors and initiatives that embody and sustain them. From farmers engaging local markets and green-michelin restaurants rooted in the local to urban consumer coops and social kitchens, we want to explore and give the stage to alternative ways of engaging with food.

AFNR focuses on the alternative networks nested in the Rijnmond area. We want to understand how alternative urban and rural actors in the Rijnmond region perceive, communicate, and relate to each other to create Alternative Food Networks (AFNs), and what barriers to strengthening cooperation and network dynamics exist.

Listen to us live at stream.vvvvvvaria.org or find past stream recordings in the event descriptions below.

For project documentation purposes, these discussions were originally broadcast using Varia’s Rural Technology series infrastructure. While the intro to afnr’s initial conversations include some Rural Tech focuses, Varia’s Rural Tech series and AFNR are now separate series.
